Stock Photo Stalking

posted by tdubray

This was a campaign from one advertiser to another, done by McCann Digital Israel while they were looking for a new art director. They hid their “help wanted” signs deep within stock photo websites, making sure they’d appear on page 5 or higher. This way, they knew only the most thorough ADs would see them. And it totally worked!

Here’s the case study, Stock Photo Stalking and if you click on the “how it looked” button, you can see a sample of the stock photo site.

Social Media Guard

Coca Cola Social Media Guard

So this isn’t exactly a “new way to use web,” if anything it goes against it, but it gets Coca Cola’s message across, to share good times with your loved ones. And even though the point of the concept is to discourage you from constant social media use, the video went viral and Coke got its advertising. Also, I love the satirical approach they took in the video.

Bitcoin

posted by apierce

I might be way late on this, but I just found out about Bitcoin today. It is a form of currency that uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. It’s a really interesting concepts and I have seen a couple of advertising tactics that incorporate this new form of currency. Check it out at https://bitcoin.org/en/

Awesome new technology

posted by hrand

I found this great website it’s called www.behance.net It’s basically a way for you to make a portfolio, but online. So instead of buying those expensive books you can just mention your Behance link on your resume. Also you can follow other people’s portfolios, which allows you to easily stalk their work. They could be like omg I love my work it’s awesome, and you can be like prove it, let me see your Behance. Just thought us ad kids could really get some use out of this brand new tool. You’re welcome.

i thought this was pretty cool. Apparently, Honda is hoping to inspire the next generation of engineers and designers with the project. This project was led by Mori’s Morihiro Harano as creative director, working with Dentsu.

Embed YouTube quote

posted by csmith

Scroll below the title of the video and you’ll see the button “embed,” which gives you the code for that video. It’s not rocket science I know, but it will be helpful when you put your One Show video into your Behance since Behance only take codes, not .mov files.

Coke Zero Sweater Generator

posted by aellis

Coke Zero did a really cool campaign over Christmas this year, asking consumers to tap their inner knitter by designing a holiday sweater via a microsite dubbed Coke Zero Sweater Generator. Using the microsite consumers were able to detail the cut, color, pattern and icons for their sweater, and then encourage their Facebook friends and Twitter followers to vote for their creation. After a few weeks of voting, the 100 sweaters with the most votes were manufactured and shipped to the contest winner.

Mobile

You can take an online course to learn mobile web design with adaptive and responsive web design concepts. You have to have a solid background of HTML and CSS before starting, but I could see how this would beneficial to extend your website platforms.

https://www.codeschool.com/courses/journey-into-mobile

You can create, edit, and modify CSS, Javascript and HTML on your iPad and iPhone. I could see this being useful if you need make a quick change to your website when you’re not at your desktop.
